AfriHealth Metrics™ – hiring Adhoc Assessor — Biomedical Engineer ( Multiple Locations)

About AfriHealth Metrics™

AfriHealth Metrics™ is an independent healthcare performance intelligence organisation building Africa’s first standardised system for assessing, measuring and benchmarking healthcare facilities across the continent. Our flagship methodology, the Facility Readiness and Performance Index™ (FRPI™), evaluates facilities across 120 indicators spanning 10 performance domains, producing composite scores and facility-level assessments that are comparable across facility types, ownership models and geographic contexts, from primary health centres in Kibera, Kenya to tertiary private hospitals in Lagos, Nigeria. We serve governments that need evidence to plan and invest, health insurers building credible provider networks, development partners and investors seeking independent verification of facility readiness, and the healthcare providers themselves, who deserve a clear, external measure of where they stand and a precise path toward improvement. We are not measuring African healthcare through a borrowed lens. We are building the tools this continent deserves from the ground up.

Job Title: Adhoc Assessor — Biomedical Engineer

Location: Lagos ,Ekiti,FCT Abuja, Niger, Zamfara, Sokoto ,Kebbi, Jigawa, Bauchi, Adamawa, Enugu, Rivers.

The FRPI™ Assessment Programme

The FRPI™ assesses healthcare facilities across six instrument types covering Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary facilities in both the public and private sectors. Assessments are conducted by trained, multi-professional teams whose combined expertise covers every domain of the framework, from clinical services and pharmacy management to laboratory quality, biomedical equipment, and health data systems.

The Biomedical Engineer Assessor is the medical equipment and facility infrastructure specialist of the FRPI™ assessment team. You will evaluate the functionality, safety, and maintenance status of medical equipment and critical facility systems across all departments. This is the most technically specialised role on the assessment team and is essential at secondary and tertiary facility levels, where equipment complexity and patient safety risk are at their highest.

Assessment Responsibilities

As an FRPI™ Biomedical Engineer Assessor, you will evaluate the following areas during facility visits. Specific assessment items vary by facility type (Primary, Secondary, or Tertiary) and ownership (public or private).

  • Assess the medical equipment inventory across all clinical departments, evaluating the availability, functional status, and physical condition of essential equipment, from basic diagnostic tools to advanced imaging and treatment systems such as X-ray, ultrasound, and CT scanners, against the facility’s service mandate and level of care.
  • Evaluate preventive maintenance programmes, including maintenance schedules, service records, and evidence of compliance with manufacturer specifications for all critical and high-value medical equipment.
  • Verify equipment calibration records and certification for diagnostic, imaging, and monitoring equipment, including thermometers, sphygmomanometers, weighing scales, glucometers, laboratory analysers, X-ray and ultrasound machines, and CT scanners.
  • Assess critical system functionality and patient safety, including oxygen supply systems, suction equipment, sterilisation units, anaesthesia machines, imaging and radiology equipment, and other diagnostic and life-support systems, verified by direct operational checks with photographic evidence.
  • Evaluate electrical safety infrastructure across the facility, including functional earthing, surge protection, generator backup availability and load capacity, and emergency power transfer systems capable of supporting sensitive diagnostic and imaging equipment.
  • Assess theatre, ICU, and diagnostic imaging equipment standards at secondary and tertiary facilities, including the condition and availability of surgical equipment, patient monitoring systems, radiology and imaging machinery, and documentation of pre-use safety checks.
  • Evaluate biomedical and healthcare waste management infrastructure, including sharps disposal systems, waste segregation and storage arrangements, treatment capacity, and compliance with Nigeria’s Healthcare Waste Management Policy.
  • Lead documentation of the biomedical equipment and facility infrastructure domain during facility assessments, ensuring equipment status is accurately recorded, photographic evidence is captured for all critical items, and any patient safety risks are escalated appropriately during the team debrief.
