Duration of Contract: 6 Months
Reporting to: WASH Officer
Role Purpose:
The WASH Assistant provides operational support to the WASH Officer in the implementation of water, sanitation, and hygiene activities. The role holder assists in hygiene promotion, community mobilization, and monitoring of WASH activities. The assistant will contribute 50% of their time to this project and work directly with communities.
Child Safeguarding:
Level 1 — Limited direct contact with children; general commitment to safeguarding principles required.
Scope of Role:
Reports to: WASH Officer
Staff reporting to this post: Community Volunteers
Key Areas of Accountability:
Field Support and Implementation
- Assist in the implementation of WASH activities in the field
- Support construction and rehabilitation of water and sanitation facilities
- Assist in monitoring and quality assurance activities
- Provide technical support to community teams
Hygiene Promotion Support
- Support the organization and implementation of hygiene promotion activities
- Assist in training community hygiene promoters
- Participate in focused group discussions and community awareness
- Support data collection for hygiene promotion monitoring
Community Mobilization
- Work directly with communities to mobilize participation
- Support community contribution collection and management
- Facilitate community meetings and consultations
- Document community feedback and concerns
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain records of field activities and outputs
- Assist in monitoring data collection
- Support report preparation
- Document lessons learned and challenges
General:
- Carry out any other WASH-related duties as decided by the WASH Officer
- Comply with and promote all CFCI policies
Qualifications:
- Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or equivalent; tertiary qualification advantageous
- 2+ years of experience in community-based projects or WASH programming
- Fluency in verbal and written English and local languages
Experience Required:
- 2 to 4 years of experience in community-based programs or WASH implementation
- Strong community mobilization and interpersonal skills
- Basic understanding of WASH principles and practices
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse community groups
- Reliable and committed to community engagement
- Proficiency in basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Ability to work in field settings and demanding environments
- Commitment to community-centered approaches
- Valid Driving Licence (advantageous)
