The Africa Youth Negotiators Fellowship (AYNF) is now accepting applications for its 4th Cohort.
In an era where climate diplomacy is shaping our collective destiny, Africa cannot afford to be a passive voice, especially its youth. AYNF offers a transformative platform for young Africans to acquire the technical fluency, strategic insights, and diplomatic skills necessary to influence national and international climate negotiations.
From participating in closed-door strategy sessions at COP to co-authoring policy briefs and advising national delegations, our fellows are not just present in the room; they are helping shape the agenda.
The Africa Youth Negotiators Fellowship (AYNF) is a transformative, pan-African capacity-building initiative designed to equip young climate leaders from across the continent with the technical knowledge, negotiation skills, and strategic confidence necessary to engage meaningfully in global climate governance processes, particularly within the UNFCCC system.
Now in its fourth cohort, AYNF has evolved into a continental leadership program dedicated to building a strong, inclusive pipeline of African Youth Negotiators who shape climate policy at national, regional, and international levels.
This cohort of the fellowship, organized by the Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO) in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Ghana, UNICEF Ghana, and Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), will be delivered in two distinct phases over four weeks:
- Phase 1 (Station 1): A one-week in-person residential training in Ghana, and virtually for remote participants. Fellows will explore core modules that cover climate diplomacy, negotiation frameworks, the UNFCCC architecture, and regional policy intersections.
- Phase 2 (Station 2): A three-week virtual working group track featuring deep-dive mentorship, policy simulations, and collaborative assignments aligned with African priorities for COP30 in Brazil.
The fellowship addresses the urgent need to elevate African youth voices in decision-making spaces by strengthening their technical preparedness, policy literacy, and leadership visibility in multilateral processes.
Eligibility Criteria
- Be a citizen of an African country, aged 15–35
- Demonstrate a strong passion for climate justice and diplomacy
- Have experience or interest in international and/or national climate policies
- Be able to commit fully to both phases of the training: 1 week in-person (or virtual) intensive + 3 weeks virtual mentorship and assignments
- Proficiency in English (the language of instruction)
