Médecins Sans Frontières is a private, not-for-profit international humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in distress, without discrimination and regardless of race, religion, creed, or political affiliation.
Currently, MSF France is co-operating with the Federal Ministry of Health, State and Local government departments of health on various projects. Our current focus is a WF and maternity response in Jahun, Jigawa state, and Malaria and Nutrition response in Katsina state with its coordination office in Abuja, Nigeria.
Main Purpose
Performing the tasks of transporting authorized goods and passengers in an MSF vehicle, ensuring its technical and safety conditions and respecting the country’s traffic rules and MSF security rules, in order to provide a safe, smooth and efficient service.
Job Description
- For airport pick-up, take the passenger information (From Radio operator), MSF Jacket and MSF phone and ensure to stay at the designated reception area to receive passengers for air-port. pickups.
- For kiss movement or any other movement outside Abuja, the driver has to ensure that the car is ready for the travel and (call the Mechanic/Head driver for inspection)to know all information on Travel Security Form. Also keeping contact with Radio Operator for each movement (Minimum 30mins at intervals)..
- Report in Logbook any fault abserved while driving the car and inform to Head of Driver and to Mechanic.
- Ensure to wash the assigned vehicle daily and and check fuel level in the morning, also on return from kiss movement.
- Under the supervision of the mechanic, actively participate in the service “A” and “B” of their vehicle and follow the process of service “C” undertaken by the responsible of fleet maintenance.
- Checking daily, the technical conditions of the assigned vehicle (state of the tires, oil, fuel, brakes, radio equipment, spare parts, etc.), performing weekly check according to the MSF Logbook, refilling it when necessary, and keeping it clean to ensure it can be driven in perfect conditions. Carrying out a hand over if another uses the vehicle
- Ensuring the security of passengers in the vehicle, driving carefully, observing speed limits and traffic rules in the country as well as MSF security rules, in order to avoid car accidents.
- Ensuring all passengers have all necessary papers in order before travelling, and ensuring non-MSF staff sign disclaimers of responsibility before using the vehicle
- Ensuring correct loading and unloading of the vehicle, submitting the documents to the receiver of the goods, checking the status of delivered goods, returning the duly completed documents to Logistics and ensuring that the goods have the necessary documents.
- Ensuring that the doors are properly locked by all staff upon entering and exiting vehicle
- Ensuring that seat belts are always worn by all passengers in the vehicle
- Knowing clearly the boundaries and locations of the green, yellow and red security zones in Abuja
- Knowing the locations of all regular destinations for the Coordination, such as Immigration, MoH
- offices, FIRS, other MSF section offices, markets etc.
- Updating the handover book before and after duty and reporting immediately to the Logistics Manager any issues observed
Knowing how to checking the fuel consumption of the vehicle during each refill
- Updating the movement book and Logbook every time as applicable.
- Check and ensure all his vehicle tools are intack jack, wheel spanner, first aid, fire extinguisher, triangle, spare tyres every morning before any trip.
Requirements
Education: Essential literacy and driving license.
Experience
- Essential 2 years minimum of previous driving experience
- Desirable experience with specific vehicles to use (4×4)
- Knowledge of Abuja roads
- Vehicle mechanic experience is an added advantage
- Desirable previous experience in MSF or other NGOs
Knowledge
- Desirable knowledge of basic mechanics
- Good knowledge of Abuja roads
- Local language essential. Mission language desirable

Remuneration: According to MSF salary scale for the number of hours worked.
