Background
Research and innovation are pivotal drivers of economic growth and societal transformation. In Nigeria, despite a wealth of research outputs from academia and innovation hubs, a significant gap persists between research findings and their practical application in the market. This disconnect hinders the nation’s ability to fully leverage its intellectual capital to address critical development challenges and
foster socio-economic progress.
The Nigerian Impact Investing Research Industry Collaborative (NIIRIC) recognizes the need to bridge this gap by hosting a 1-Day Research and Innovation to Commercialization Workshop to empower researchers and innovators, to transition their research output to commercial value and possibly to
scalable businesses. The workshop is an action-oriented training and coaching program that will equip researchers and innovators with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the complex journey to commercialize and achieve a good problem-solution fit as well as technology-market fit.
To this end, the Nigerian Impact Investing Research Industry Collaborative (NIIRIC) is seeking the services of an experienced consultant and expert in research commercialization, intellectual property,
and investment to facilitate a one-day Research and Innovation to Commercialization Workshop.

Workshop Objectives

The selected consultant(s) will help participants achieve the following objectives:
i. Strengthen participants’ understanding of the research commercialization process by providing
practical insights into intellectual property management, business model development, and
effective funding strategies.
ii. Support the practical application of research outputs by guiding participants in aligning their
innovations with market demands and addressing socio-economic priorities.
iii. Build participants’ skills in pitching and scaling innovations through hands-on training in presenting research and innovations to potential funders, investors, and industry stakeholders.
iv. Enhance the capacity of researchers and innovators to commercialize their ideas, culminating in the development of actionable commercialization plans tailored to their projects.

Consultant Scope of Work

 

The consultant(s) will:
● Develop and deliver a comprehensive workshop curriculum aligned with the objectives stated above.
● Facilitate engaging and interactive sessions that incorporate real-world case studies and
practical exercises.
● Provide tools and frameworks for participants to identify commercialization pathways and assess market viability.
● Coach participants on effective pitching techniques for attracting funding and partnerships.
● Submit a post-workshop report with recommendations for sustaining participant progress. Consultant Qualifications
The desired Consultant should possess the following qualifications:
● Demonstrated expertise in research commercialization, innovation management, or related
fields.
● Proven experience facilitating workshops or training programs for researchers, innovators, or entrepreneurs.
● Strong knowledge of intellectual property, business model development, funding strategies, and market alignment.
● Excellent communication, facilitation, and coaching skills.
● Familiarity with Nigeria’s research and innovation ecosystem is an added advantage.

Submission Requirements

Interested consultants should apply by submitting a proposal that includes the following:
● CV or Profile: Detailing relevant experience, expertise and achievements.
● Understanding of the Scope: A detailed description of how the consultant interprets the
concept of Research and Innovation to Commercialization
● Proposed Training Methodology, Curriculum and Agenda: Training methodology, curriculum
detailing the courses or modules and the program agenda for an intensive 1-day training session
in line with the workshop objectives.
● Work Sample: Examples of previous workshops, training, or facilitation materials.
● Proposed Fee: Indicate expected remuneration for facilitating the workshop.

Selection Process

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview to discuss their training methodology, curriculum and relevant experience. All applicants will be also be notified about the status of their application.
