Applications Open For The 4TH Edition Of The Chief Of Army staff (COAS) literary competitions 2027

Applications are officially OPEN for Nigerian children and youth to showcase their creativity, critical thinking and artistic talents through the 4th Edition of the COAS Literary Competitions 2027.

The theme for this year’s competition is “Building Mutual Trust Between the Nigerian Army and the Citizens as a Foundation for National Security,” provides a platform for young Nigerians to express their ideas, demonstrate their talents and contribute to national conversations through creative expression.

Whether you are an aspiring writer, talented artist or passionate poet, this is your opportunity to showcase your creativity, gain national recognition and win exciting cash prizes!

COMPETITION CATEGORIES
• COAS Essay Competition: Open to Primary, Secondary and Tertiary students.
• COAS Art Competition: Submit original paintings or drawings accompanied by a short caption.
• COAS Poetry Competition: Open genre, with a maximum of 200 words, written in English.

Entry Requirements For The COAS Competitions

1. COAS ESSAY COMPETITION

Interested participants are required to adhere to the following guidelines:

1.Essay Topic: Participants are expected to develop a suitable essay topic based on the official competition theme.
2. Word Limit:
– Primary and Secondary School Categories: Essays must not exceed 2,000 words.
– Tertiary Institution Category: Essays must be between 3,000 and 5,000 words.
3. Originality:All essays must reflect the writer’s original thoughts, ideas and perspectives.
4. Submission Deadline: Completed essays must be uploaded through the official submission portal at dcma.army.mil.ng on or before 31 May 2027.

2. COAS ART COMPETITION

Participants in the Art Competition must comply with the following requirements:

1. Relevance to the Theme: All artworks must be relevant to and clearly reflect the official competition theme.

2. Accepted Art Forms: Entries are restricted to painting and drawing only.

3. Caption:Each artwork must be accompanied by a short and appropriate caption.

4. Originality:All submitted artworks must be original creations and must not have been previously published.

5. Submission Format: Artworks must be photographed or scanned clearly and uploaded through the official submission portal at dcma.army.mil.ng.

3. COAS POETRY COMPETITION

Participants entering the Poetry Competition must observe the following guidelines:

1. Originality: All poems must be original works written by the participants.
2. Genre:Participants are free to explore any genre or style of poetry, provided the poem relates directly to the official competition theme.
3. Word Limit: Each poem must contain a maximum of 200 words.
4. Language: All poems must be written in English Language.
5. Submission Deadline: Completed poems must be uploaded through the official submission portal at dcma.army.mil.ng on or before 31 May 2027.
