Job Title: Principal Laboratory Scientist
Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
About the role
- Acts as a senior laboratory scientist, performing complex and specialised testing, guiding junior staff, and supporting quality and biosafety.
Responsibilities
- Act as a senior practitioner in laboratory, performing complex/specialised laboratory testing and providing a clinical/technical resource to colleagues.
- Provide day-to-day guidance and checking of junior staff and trainees.
- Support biosafety compliance and quality assurance at section level.
- Contribute to audit, quality improvement and continuous professional development (CPD).
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) from a recognised institution, completion of the required national internship and NYSC (or a valid exemption where applicable).
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of post-registration experience in the relevant profession, including experience supporting and guiding junior medical laboratory science staff and experience working within a multidisciplinary hospital team.
Required skills:
- Advanced knowledge of laboratory practice across disciplines
- Ability to perform complex/specialised testing and guide junior staff
- Sound understanding of quality control and biosafety
- Equipment competence and fault identification
- Effective communication and record-keeping.
Nice to have:
- Specialty training or certification relevant to the laboratory discipline.
