Job Title: Laboratory Scientist
Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
About the role
- Performs and quality-assures laboratory testing accurately and safely, supporting patient care and the running of the laboratory service.
Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory testing across relevant laboratory areas to professional standards.
- Apply biosafety and quality-control standards in day-to-day practice.
- Maintain equipment readiness for own work and report faults promptly.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and support reporting/result workflows.
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) from a recognised institution.
- Completion of the required national internship and NYSC, or a valid exemption where applicable.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of post-registration/post-internship experience in the relevant profession; newly registered practitioners may be considered.
- Post-registration experience in medical laboratory science practice.
- Clinical/technical competence appropriate to the role, exercised with appropriate supervision.
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary hospital team.
Required skills:
- Knowledge of laboratory practice across relevant disciplines appropriate to the role.
- Competence in specimen handling and testing.
- Sound understanding of quality control and biosafety.
- Competent operation and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
- Accurate record-keeping and competent use of laboratory information systems.
Nice to have:
- Specialty training or certification relevant to the laboratory discipline.
