Capacity Strengthening Training on the African Union Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP) cohort 3 for Africa | Fully Funded
The Life & Peace Institute (LPI), in partnership with the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR) and the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR), invites applications for the third cohort of its Capacity Strengthening Training on the African Union Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP).
The training will strengthen the knowledge, skills and networks of civil society and community-based organisations working on transitional justice, peacebuilding, reconciliation, human rights and related areas across the Horn of Africa and Great Lakes Region.
Training dates: 27–29 October 2026 (tentative)

Learning Objectives
Overall Goal
The primary objective of this capacity strengthening training is to empower CSOs from across the Horn of Africa and Great Lakes regions by providing them with comprehensive knowledge on TJR,
specifically focusing on the AUTJP. This is intended to assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring TJR and dialogue initiatives in their respective countries. The aim is to enable participants to incorporate the knowledge gained into their work and actively promote transitional justice and reconciliation (TJR), dialogue, and social cohesion processes within their communities.
Specific Objectives
- Enhance participants’ knowledge and understanding of TJ&R as well as the AUTJP, focusing on the guiding principles and thematic issues outlined in the policy.
- Strengthen the participation of national and sub-national stakeholders in the awareness-raising of the AUTJP, as well as in the ongoing national TJR policy implementation processes.
- . Deepen participants’ understanding of gender-inclusive TJ&R processes by utilising
comparative experiences and lessons from the continent. - . Strengthen opportunities for historically marginalised members of the community to exercise leadership roles and participate meaningfully in TJR processes within their countries.
- . Contribute to and actively engage with the Horn of Africa TJR network to share experiences, strengthen capacity, and exchange knowledge and information related to TJ, peacebuilding, and reconciliation initiatives.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- • Be a national of one of the target countries: Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, the DRC, Burundi, Rwanda, or Uganda.
- • Ideally be affiliated with a registered CSO or CBO that is primarily operating within one of those target countries.
- • Work substantively in peacebuilding, transitional justice, dialogue, reconciliation, human rights, governance, or a closely related field.
- • Demonstrate a clear commitment to promoting peaceful, inclusive, and rights-based societies.
- • Demonstrate a credible ability and plan to cascade knowledge and skills gained within their institution and/or community following the training.
- • Good understanding of the English language.

countries.
Training Cost
LPI will cover all costs associated with participation for all successful applicants, including travel, accommodation, meals, and training materials for the duration of the training.
