We carry out innovative, lifesaving programs in Health, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support, Food Security and Livelihoods and Social Protection.

Action Against Hunger began operations in Nigeria in 2010 in response to the high rate of chronic malnutrition in Northern Nigeria, focusing on integrated programming. Action Against Hunger currently implements multi-sectorial humanitarian and development interventions in Northeast and Northwest Nigeria, funded by AFD, EU/ECHO, French Government, GAC, GFFO, SIDA, US Government, and WAM Foundation.

Action Against Hunger is currently looking for health Promoters to support the implementation of health, hygiene, and nutrition promotion activities at the facility and community level. This role ensures effective community mobilization, delivery of health messages, support to disease prevention initiatives, and improved adoption of positive health and hygiene behaviors among vulnerable individuals and ensure the collection and compilation of quality data from the field level.

Tittle : Health Promoter (Pool)

Location: Maiduguri, Borno State

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular community sensitization, health education, and awareness sessions on key health topics (SRH, MHPSS, nutrition, WASH, etc.).
  • To facilitate supportive supervision visits to ensure quality service delivery in supported facilities.
  • Mobilize community members to access facility-based services, outreach programs, and referral pathways.
  • Facilitate group meetings, FGDs, and household visits to disseminate health information and address misconceptions.
  • Support the identification of vulnerable individuals needing targeted support.
  • Refer clients from the community to the nearest health facility and follow up on referrals.
  • Assist facility staff in organizing outreach activities, screening campaigns, and follow-up visits.
  • Support documentationof community health activities and submit reports to supervisors.
  • Raise community awareness on Complaint and Feedback Mechanisms (CFM) and ensure they understand available reporting channels.
  • Promote PSEA (Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) messaging and ensure beneficiaries know safe and confidential reporting options.
  • Conduct facility/community-level data collection (attendance sheets, referral forms, awareness activity logs).
  • Report daily/weekly field activities, challenges, and emerging community needs.
  • Support the monitoring and follow-up of clients reached through mobilization.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and supportive supervision sessions.
  • Collaborate with community leaders, women/youth groups, facility staff, and local organizations.
  • Represent the organization positively during community engagements.
  • Uphold organizational safeguarding standards in all interactions with community members.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect for beneficiaries’ dignity.
  • Immediately report any safeguarding or SEA concerns through approved channels.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive and the employee will also perform other related tasks as required and responsible for reporting and communication of progress and achievement of the specific assigned task;

  • Professionally conduct all duties following Action Against Hunger Nigeria mission staff regulations, Action Against Hunger mandate and charter including promotion of gender equality.
Position Requirements and Skills:

  • National Diploma in Public Health, Community Health, Nursing, Nutrition or related field
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in community health, hygiene promotion, or humanitarian programming
  • Experience in supporting the implementation and monitoring of health and nutrition activities at the facility and community levels.
  • Basic knowledge of areas (MIYCN, ANC, family planning, hygiene promotion, immunization, etc..
  • Collection, documentation, and reporting of health and nutrition data and success stories
  • Good knowledge of implementing projects in insecure contexts.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to engage diverse community groups
  • Capacity to accurately collect and report data while working effectively in dynamic and humanitarian field environments.
