This specific position is for a Media and Communications Officer (Consultant), indicating a high-level, project-based engagement. The consultant is expected to develop and implement strategic communication plans, manage media relations, and enhance the organization’s public and digital visibility, all while working remotely
The consultant’s primary responsibilities focus on strategic outreach and content creation to meet the organization’s communication and resource mobilization goals. Key tasks typically involve:
Tasks
- Strategy Development: Assessing current communications and developing a comprehensive national or project-specific communications plan, including a donor visibility framework.
- Content Production: Creating and editing high-quality public information materials, including press releases, human interest stories, social media content, and multimedia products.
- Media Relations: Building and maintaining strong relationships with national and international media outlets and managing proactive engagement.
- Digital Presence: Leading the management of social media platforms and the website, ensuring content consistency and alignment with global branding.
- Resource Mobilization Support: Developing targeted communication briefs and visibility packs to aid fundraising and partner engagement efforts.
Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Education: A Master’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field, OR a University degree with additional years of relevant professional experience.
- Languages: Fluency in English (both written and oral) is essential. Working knowledge of another official UN language is often an advantage.
Experience
- Professional Experience: Typically requires 5-7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in strategic communications, public information, or journalism, particularly within an international or humanitarian context.
- Technical Skills: Proven experience in digital communications, social media management, and the use of media monitoring tools. Familiarity with graphic design/multimedia software is often highly desirable.
- Demonstrated Expertise: A strong portfolio showcasing proven ability to develop and implement strategic communication plans, manage media liaison, and handle donor visibility is crucial.
