Job Description

  • We are looking for people who are passionate about helping refugees and people forced to flee.
  • If you are those people, the Norwegian Refugee Council in Nigeria is looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Education Coordinator (Partnership) Nigeria Gwoza to join our team.
  • The Education Coordinator (Partnership) will build the capacity of the education partners’ staff on key technical education programming areas.
  • The position holder also works with partners to ensure quality education activities are implemented on time and in compliance with organisational and donor requirements.

Responsibilities
Generic responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the Education partners organisation in Gwoza LGA, along with the Education Project Manager: activities, budgets utilisation, project documentation in line with proposals, strategies, and donor requirements
  •  Work with local partners to provide timely progress reports/donor reports and accurate completion reports as required.
  • Trains and supports partners staff on education technical trainings, such as pedagogical skills,  Better Learning programme(BLP), Annual Status of Education Report(ASER), Child Protection and Safeguarding, among others.
  • Work with partners staff to ensure effective teaching and learning in schools
  • Participate in the implementation of the monitoring plan of activities delegated by the supervisor,
  •  Ensures partners’ staff are archiving all project documents in line with ROD.
  • Collaborate with partners to coordinate relevant local authorities and local partners, State Ministry of Education etc attend sectoral working groups, and link with key stakeholders.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Capacity building for partners’ staff on key technical education programming areas.
  • Work with a partner to ensure quality education activities are implemented on time and in compliance with organisational and donor requirements.
  • Ensure that all necessary documents and means of verification for all activities are captured and stored electronically to facilitate timely reporting and disbursement of funds.
  • Support the partner in preparing monitoring documents, work plans, activity reports, monthly reports, spending plans and procurement plans for activities on time and according to NRC and donor guidelines.
  • Work with a partner to conduct regular field visits to project locations to ensure timeliness and quality of implementation in the field and provide regular updates on project status to the Project Manager.
  • Support partners contribute to monthly, quarterly and annual internal and external reports.
  • Work with partners to ensure adherence  to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
  • Support the partners in applying protection and prevention mechanisms in all education project activities and interactions to ensure the safety and well-being of staff and beneficiaries.
  • Provide and guide partners on regular tracking/collecting essential data that feeds into GORS NRC M&E system.

Requirements
Generic Professional Competencies:

  • Technical background in Education, university degree level in relevant discipline essential
  • Minimum 3 years’ Education  experience in a humanitarian/ early recovery context
  • Experience working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Previous experience working in the BAY States, especially Gwoza, Borno State, is an added advantage.
  • Technical Education expertise(Non-formal education, formal education, youth programming, Teachers Professional Development (TPD), Gend er and Inclusive education programming.
  • Very good working English (both written and verbal), fluency in the Local Language.

Context/ Specific Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Proven knowledge in technical trainings such as pedagogical skills, Better Learning programme(BLP), Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) and Learners’ Assessment, Teachers’ Professional Development (TPD) and Child Protection, psychosocial  support programme, Safeguarding, gender and inclusion education programming
  • Proven knowledge of soft education, including WASH in schools, hygiene promotion,  community sensitisation, and schools’ construction/ rehabilitation related works.
  • Good capacity for planning and monitoring of education activities in resources resource-constrained environment
    • Have good knowledge/experience of working with local partners, including capacity building related to the education programme.
    • Ability to work in a team with local partners and independently to provide sound technical guidance and support to the education implementing partners.
    • Have a good knowledge of the local cultures and languages of the areas of intervention
    • Have a good command of computers (Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc);
