About the Project (ZYCELP Cohort 2)
The Zamfara Youth Civic Engagement Leadership Program (ZYCELP) – Cohort 2 is a youth-led initiative designed to promote good governance, grassroots accountability, and civic participation across Zamfara State. The program empowers young leaders from all 14 local government areas through training, mentorship, and practical engagement to track government activities, advocate for transparency, and foster inclusive leadership at the local, zonal and state level.
Fellows will be engaged in conduct civic education tours, establish civic clubs, create local government accountability platforms, and raise awareness on local government autonomy using media and town hall engagements.
Program Key Highlights:-
1. Training & Mentorship
2. Higher Institution Accountability Tours (10 tertiary institutions)
3. Establishment of Civic Clubs in Secondary Schools
4. Creation of Social Media Scorecards for All 14 LGAs
5. Youth Accountability Tea Events for all 14 LGAs
6. Radio Awareness Programs on Governance & LG Autonomy
7. Stakeholders’ Town Hall Meetings in 3 Senatorial Zones
8. Budget Tracking & Project Monitoring Training
9. Digital Tools for Civic Engagement and Transparency
10. Inclusive Participation: Women, PWDs, Vulnerable Youth.
Eligibility Criteria:-
To be eligible for the Zamfara Youth Civic Engagement Leadership Program (ZYCELP)
Cohort 2, applicants must:
1. Be between 18–35 years old
2. Be an indigene and resident of Zamfara State
3. Be passionate about leadership, good governance, accountability and civic responsibility
4. Have interest or experience in advocacy, volunteering, or community development
5. Be committed and available to participate in all program activities
6. Be active on social media and willing to engage online for civic advocacy
7. Be available for the 3-day residential leadership workshop
