Apply Now: The Multilateral 101 Virtual Course

Multilateral institutions play a major role in Africa’s development — shaping policies, funding priorities, and setting the direction of national agendas. While some of their interventions bring much-needed resources and frameworks for progress, they often come with conditions and criteria that place African economies under strain. From austerity measures that limit social spending to policy recommendations crafted without adequate youth consultation, many of these approaches may work in other regions but do not always align with our unique contexts or realities. This gap between policy prescription and lived experience underscores the need for African youth to fully understand how these institutions operate, the influence they wield over government decisions, and the ways to meaningfully engage with them to ensure that global solutions work locally.
Join the Multilateral 101 – Youth Learning & Strategy Series and Advocacy Sprint, part of the From Learning to Demanding campaign aligned with the 2025 International Youth Day theme — “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond.” Put together by YouthHubAfrica with support from Action Aid, the global platform and Activista will equip young activists from Nigeria, Tanzania, The Gambia, Liberia, Kenya, and Ghana with the tools to:
-
Understand how multilateral institutions such as the IMF, World Bank, and AfDB shape national policies, budgets, and development priorities.
-
Critically assess the real-world impact of our National Government’s engagement with the multilateral and how and why these lead to austerity measures on public services — especially in health, education, and decent work.
