The Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) has launched a new national initiative in partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), aimed at empowering young Nigerians through responsible credit to transform youth financial access in Nigeria.
The announcement follows the signing of a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two institutions.
“This partnership with the NYSC is a direct response to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Democracy Day promise to expand access to consumer credit starting this July. We are beginning with corps members because they represent the future,” CREDICORP said.
The program is also tagged ‘as ‘Corper Credit’, and is the flagship feature of the broader YouthCred platform.
It is designed exclusively for active NYSC members and provides upfront loans ranging from N100,000 to N150,000. The repayment is spread across the service year, allowing corps members to make small, manageable installments.
YouthCred offers more than just financial support. According to CREDICORP, “This is not just a loan. It’s a movement.” The initiative includes credit knowledge courses that unlock access to affordable credit for up to six months.
With no collateral or guarantors required, the system encourages users to prove their creditworthiness with smaller amounts before accessing higher limits.
To ensure widespread adoption and understanding, NYSC officials across Nigeria’s 36 states have already been trained on how to guide corps members through the YouthCred platform. This includes education in credit use, budgeting, credit scoring, and financial responsibility.
ELIGIBILITY:
i. Must be an active NYSC corps member
ii. NYSC Number
iii. Valid means of identification (NYSC ID Card, NYSC Deployment Letter or NYSC Call-up Letter)
iv. Corps member must go through a digital financial literacy program covering the basics of credit, budgeting, credit scores, and financial responsibility.
