Objectives of the Programme

The WHO Department of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Research (SRH), including the HRP Special Programme, is dedicated to advancing research, norms, and standards in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). It promotes interdisciplinary research, collaborates with nations to build research capacity, and advocates for evidence-based policymaking in SRH programs. Description of Duties

This internship focuses on the intersection of climate change and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Under the guidance of the Technical Officer and Human Rights Adviser, responsibilities include:

Developing Evidence-Based Products on Climate Change & SRHR (80%)

  • Analyze research agendas on climate change and SRHR among HRP co-sponsors and partners.
  • Assist in developing research proposals aligned with HRP’s research capacity strengthening goals.
    • Draft a policy brief on climate change and SRHR.
    • Support coordination activities for a climate change and SRHR working group.
    • Assist in organizing workshops, meetings, and events.
    • Contribute to ongoing departmental projects and research capacity initiatives.

    Horizon Scanning for Agenda-Setting Processes (20%)

    • Conduct interviews with key stakeholders.
    • Develop and analyze interview questions and reports.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain insight into WHO’s SRH department and its work on research, climate change, and human rights.
  • Understand WHO’s operational structure across headquarters, regional, and country offices.
  • Learn to develop research proposals, assemble data, and create evidence-based WHO publications.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Completed three years of full-time studies in public/global health or related fields before starting the internship.
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a university course (application within six months of graduation).
  • Demonstrable coursework in SRHR or climate change.

Skills

  • Effective communication (oral and written).
  • Willingness to learn and produce quality results.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Experience

  • Familiarity with the intersection of climate change and health.
  • Interest in SRHR demonstrated through academic or professional work.
  • Experience producing public-facing written material is an asset.

Languages

  • Essential: Fluent in English.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of another UN language.

Financial Support

  • Interns do not receive a salary, but they are provided a living allowance:
    • $822/month (738 CHF) for Geneva-based interns with permanent residence.
    • $1,913/month (1716 CHF) for Geneva-based interns from outside the duty station.
  • Daily lunch voucher: ~$22 (20 CHF) per working day.
  • WHO covers accident and medical insurance for all interns.
