Job Title: Branch Compliance Officer

Reports to: Zonal Compliance Officer

Job Overview

  • Responsible for supporting and monitoring compliance activities across assigned branches to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies and procedures, while identifying and escalating compliance risks and exceptions for timely resolution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor assigned branches for compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, policies, procedures and internal control standards.
  • Conduct periodic compliance reviews of branches and follow up on identified exceptions until closure.
  • Ensure compliance with KYC, Customer Due Diligence (CDD), AML/CFT and sanctions requirements across assigned branches.
  • Review account-opening and customer documentation for compliance with regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Monitor adherence to regulatory requirements relating to customer identification, transaction processing and record keeping.
  • Identify, document and escalate compliance breaches, exceptions and emerging risks within assigned branches.
  • Provide compliance guidance and support to branch staff on policies, regulatory requirements and identified compliance issues.
  • Track remediation of compliance findings arising from reviews, audits and regulatory examinations.
  • Support the implementation of new and revised regulatory requirements across assigned branches.
  • Conduct compliance sensitization and awareness sessions for branch employees as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of compliance reviews, exceptions, remediation status and related reports.
  • Prepare periodic compliance reports on assigned branches for management review.
  • Escalate unusual or potentially suspicious activities through the appropriate channels in line with the Bank’s procedures.
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders to ensure timely resolution of compliance issues.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Zonal Compliance Officer.

 

 

Requirements
Skills/Competencies:
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Good knowledge of banking operations and regulatory requirements
  • Understanding of AML/CFT, KYC, CDD and sanctions compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of branch operations, account opening and transaction processes
  • Good understanding of compliance risk and internal control principles
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify exceptions
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple locations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Good report-writing and documentation skills

Qualifications & Experience
Mandatory:

  • First Degree in Accounting, Banking & Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Law, Finance or any related discipline
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in Compliance, Banking Operations, Internal Control, Audit, Risk Management or a related function.
  • Professional qualification – ACA, ACCA, CFA, ACIB

Desired:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Relevant professional certification or membership in Compliance, Risk, Banking, Audit or related disciplines
  • Knowledge of applicable CBN regulations and Nigerian banking industry compliance requirements.
