UBA Foundation 2026 National Essay Competition for Nigerian senior secondary students (41 Million Naira in educational grant)

Applications are now open for the 2026 UBA Foundation National Essay Competition. The National Essay Competition, targeted at senior secondary students in Nigeria, is organised annually, as part of UBA Foundation’s education initiative which aims to promote the reading culture and encourage healthy and intellectual competition amongst secondary school students in Nigeria and across Africa.

Essay Topic

No Nation Can Develop Without Food Security. How Can Nigeria Deal With This Problem?

1st Stage: Call for entries – 20 best essays to be selected
2nd Stage: Final physical test – 5 winners

Application Requirements

  • Must be a Nigerian Senior Secondary School Student.
  • Complete application form.
  • Upload a handwritten essay of 750 words max (not typed).
  • Upload a recent passport photograph.
  • Upload a scanned copy of Birth Certificate, National ID, or International Passport.

Prizes

The first-place winner will receive a N15 million university grant, up from N10 million in 2025.

The other winners will receive:

  • Second place: N10.5 million
  • Third place: N7.5 million
  • Fourth place: N5 million
  • Fifth place: N3.5 million
