Purpose of the role

The purpose of the Campaigns Officer is to design, coordinate, and implement impactful advocacy campaigns that advance CAN Africa’s strategic priorities and influence climate policy outcomes at national, regional, and international levels. The position exists to translate policy objectives into coordinated campaigns that mobilize civil society, strengthen member engagement, and hold decision-makers accountable to climate justice commitments.

The Campaigns Officer will work closely with members, partners, and thematic leads to plan and execute campaigns on key issues such as climate finance, just transition, loss and damage, and energy transition, ensuring alignment with CAN Africa’s broader strategy and global CAN campaigns.

CAN Africa is at the forefront of advocating for a clean and productive energy future in Africa.

As the urgency of the global climate crisis becomes increasinglyapparent, the shift towards cleaner, sustainable energy solutions has become imperative. The primary goal of the Campaign Officer is to lead, strategize, andexecute campaigns related to climate Action and Justice and promoting investments inrenewable energy in Africa.

Duties and responsibilities

1. Programmes and Management

Campaign Development and Strategy: Create, plan, and execute campaigns that push for the cessation of fossil fuelsand the advancement of renewable energy, climate finance, adaptation, etc.

 Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with policymakers,government officials, private sector representatives, and community leaders toadvocate for policy shifts and tangible actions.

Research & Analysis: Conduct thorough research to stay

abreast of the latest energy trends, technologies, and best practices in the climate sector.

Lead on the development of campaign strategy and plans: Conduct bottom-up and inclusive campaign strategies/plans development on key thematic focus of CAN Africa withmembers and allies.

Lead on the implementation of campaigns: Provide leadership and coordination for campaigns roll-out and implementation for CAN Africa and support national and sub-regional campaigns.

Awareness & Education: Organize seminars, workshops, and webinars to educate stakeholders about the key thematic of campaign focus of CAN Africa and members.

◆ Collaboration: Work closely with CAN Africa’s member organizations and partners to synchronize efforts and amplify campaign impacts.

Monitoring & Reporting: Track campaign progress and impact, providing regular updates to the Team, and stakeholders.

Ad-hoc Tasks: Carry out other related tasks assigned by the Regional Coordinator.

Lead organizing efforts that build coalitions, alliances, and public participation across Africa.

◆Support national and regional members in rolling out synchronized campaigns.

◆Facilitate capacity-building sessions for members on campaigning, mobilization, and creative actions.

◆ Organize events, rallies, digital actions, and media stunts to raise visibility

Resource Mobilization

◆ Support fundraising efforts to support CAN Africa’s projects by contributing to donor scoping, engagement, proposal writing and report writing

Partnerships

◆Support efforts to deepen partnership, alignment, and engagement with civil society and networks in the region and beyond.

◆ Demonstrate transparency and accountability in the organization through proactive adherence to best practice:

◆Proactively communicate with the Regional Coordinator about the state of the organization’s campaigns and projects, particularly when there are problems that needto be addressed
