The Role
- We are seeking passionate and detail-oriented Translators to join our team and provide routine support to research activities under the guidance of the Strategic Research and Learning Unit.
- This role is offered on a consultancy, as-needed basis and does not constitute full-time or permanent employment.The role contributes to furthering MSI’s Vision: To create A WORLD IN WHICH EVERY BIRTH IS WANTED and its mission of ensuring the individual’s right to CHILDREN BY CHOICE NOT CHANCE.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of the translator include the following:
- The candidate will translate relevant research study documents and instruments e.g., Discussion Guides, Questionnaires, etc, from English into the appropriate local language (e.g., Hausa, Yoruba, etc.) or from the local language (e.g., Hausa, Yoruba, etc.) to English.
- Ensure translated texts convey original meaning and tone.
- Proofread translated texts for grammar, spelling and punctuation accuracy.
- Support with pretest of some of the contents with clients to ensure translation meets their needs.
- Edit content and maintain the original format (font and structure).
- Submit the final version to the team upon completion of the assignment.
Key Experience / Qualification
- First degree in translation or equivalent in any discipline is essential.
- Additional certification in Linguistics is a plus.
- Proven work experience as a Translator, Interpreter, or similar role.
- Fluency in English, Hausa, Yoruba or chosen language.
- Excellent proofreading skills with the ability to identify grammar, spelling and punctuation errors.
- Good knowledge of content editing tools.
- Time management skills
Skills and Competencies:
- Must have a computer system and excellent computer application skills. Particularly MS Word and Excel.
- Must have a very good computer typing speed.
- Pro-choice.
- Team player.
- Strong attention to detail.
