About the Green Youth Upskilling Program (GYUP)
The Green Youth Upskilling Program (GYUP) is a forward-looking initiative powered by The Oando Foundation, with NCIC as key implementing partner. It is designed to prepare young Nigerians for emerging opportunities in the green economy. As climate change and environmental challenges reshape the global workforce, this program equips youth with practical, future-focused skills that promote sustainability, innovation, and economic inclusion.
Target Group
The Green Youth Upskilling Program aims to empower 25 young individuals who demonstrate the potential to thrive in green and technical sectors.
The target beneficiaries must meet the following demographic and professional profile:
- Age Range: 20–35 years old
- Location: Residents of Lagos State
- Background: Foundational technical knowledge or experience in areas like solar energy, electrical work, mechanical trades, recycling, or climate-smart agriculture is an added advantage, but not mandatory. Passion and willingness to learn are key.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be Nigerian citizens within the specified age bracket.
- Have completed a minimum of secondary education (SSCE).
- Show strong interest in advancing their technical capacity within the green economy.
- Be available to fully participate in the training program (including all in-person or virtual sessions).
- Submit all required application documents within the stated timeline.
- It is an added advantage to have some exposure or experience in technical or green-related fields (e.g., through volunteering, self-learning, or informal work experience).
What Participants Gain

Selection Process
The selection process will be conducted in four key phases:
1. Call for Applications

- Public announcements via online platforms, community notice boards, youth organizations, local government structures, press.
- Clear application instructions provided via a downloadable or online application form.
2. Application Submission and Documentation Review
Applicants will be required to submit:

- A completed application form
- A recent CV or one-page bio
- A brief statement of interest (max 300 words) explaining:
- Why they want to join the Green Youth Upskilling Program.
- Any exposure they may have had to technical or green-related work (Note: prior experience is not mandatory but will be considered an added advantage).
- Their career aspirations post-training.
- Any supporting documents will be optional but encouraged as it helps showcase passion and initiative, even if their experience is informal or self-taught (e.g., training certificates, photos of prior work, references)
3. Screening and Shortlisting

- All applications will be assessed by a review committee based on completeness, relevance, and motivation.
- Top candidates will be shortlisted using a scoring system that considers:
- Exposure to Green/Technical Fields will be an added advantage. Note: While previous experience is not required, demonstrated exposure or initiative will be considered a plus.
- Clarity of motivation and alignment with the program goals
- Potential for impact and career growth through the program
4. Interview and Final Selection

- Shortlisted applicants will be invited for a brief virtual or in-person interview to validate their application, gauge commitment, and assess communication skills.
- Final selection of 25 participants will be made based on cumulative scores from the review and interview.
- A waitlist of 5–10 qualified candidates will also be maintained in case of dropouts.
Diversity and Inclusion Consideration
The selection process will strive for gender balance and regional inclusivity. Special consideration will be given to:
- Women and young women-led initiatives
- Youths from underserved or marginalized communities
