The University of Basel’s Centre for African Studies is seeking a PhD Researcher in African Environmental History, Political Ecology, or Environmental Humanities
The successful candidate will join the SNSF Starting Grant Project, “Curated Escapes and Derelict Landscapes in Times of Climate Change,” and develop a PhD project focused on private nature conservation and/or residential eco-estates in Namibia or South Africa.
Responsibilities:
– Develop and execute a PhD project
– Collaborate with the project team and contribute to its broader conceptual themes
– Collaborate with African universities
– Contribute to research, publication, and dissemination activities
Requirements:
– Excellent Master’s degree in African Studies, History, Human Geography, or related disciplines
– Very good English language skills
– Strong interest in southern Africa’s environmental history and political ecology
– Willingness to travel and conduct independent research in southern Africa
