Applications are now open for the 2027 Mo Ibrahim Foundation Leadership Fellowship Programme, an initiative established to identify and mentor the next generation of outstanding African leaders.
The programme offers selected Fellows the opportunity to work for 12 months in the executive offices of one of three host organisations: the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Abidjan, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in Addis Ababa, or the International Trade Centre (ITC) in Geneva.
Each year, three Fellows are selected, with a $100,000 stipend for the fellowship.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a national of an African country.
- Have a minimum of seven years of relevant work experience.
- Hold a Master’s degree.
- Be under 40 years old.
- Women with children may be eligible up to 45 years old.
- Meet any additional requirements specified by the selected host organization.
What the Fellowship Offers
During the 12-month fellowship, Fellows will:
- Gain technical and leadership experience.
- Contribute directly to research and policy design.
- Work within the executive offices of a host organisation.
- Receive direct mentorship from the heads of the host organisations.
- Develop professional experience in an international policy environment.
- Join the Mo Ibrahim Foundation Now Generation Network (NGN) after the fellowship.
The NGN provides a platform for Fellows and other young African leaders to continue contributing their skills and perspectives towards building a better Africa.
