Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. Médecins Sans Frontières aids populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title:Nursing Team Supervisor
Location:Gwoza, Borno.
Job Type: Fixed Term Contract Starting With 6 Months /level 8)
Main Purpose:
Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated, according to MSF values,
policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care
and the development of the plan of action.
Job Description
- Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e. perform as a nurse or anaesthetist, whenever required or
needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience. - Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order
to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her speciality. - Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their
performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human
resources needs and maintain high standards of quality. - Carry out and/or supervise the (decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, followup of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption,
etc.) in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness. - Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance
tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service. - Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient
files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information
about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking. - Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
Lead Nursing activities.
- Coordinate, plan, and supervise all nursing activities within the MSF-supported department GGH, ensuring that they
align with protocols - In collaboration with CNO and NAM, ensure that nurses and nurse aides’ rosters are prepared and shared with the
team in time, and ensure compliance with the rosters - Address any challenge that may interfere with the general running of nursing activities to your line managers for
immediate support
Supervise and Capacity Building
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, and regular on-the-job training for your team, ensuring there is a clear training
calendar and compliance to the training plan by the team. - Ensure quality case management, triage, IPC, documentation, and rational drug use at all times
Ensure Clinical Quality & IPC Standards
- Monitor adherence to MSF protocols, IPC, sterilization, waste management, and patient-flow procedures at all
points/departments. Identify gaps and implement improvement actions. - Ensure correct waste segregation and disposal as per MSF protocol, constantly monitoring and reminding staff of the
importance. - Identify training needs, support HR processes, and strengthen the skills of all nursing staffConduct IPC checklist daily, provide feedback immediately, and submit it to the IPC supervisor.
Community Linkage & Health Promotion Coordination
- Work with the HP/supervisor to strengthen referral pathways, community engagement within the facility, health
promotion messages, and coverage in the wards.
Referrals
- Ensure effective referral systems between departments in the hospital and coordinate with Hospital NAM, MAM,
CNO, and PMR for any support needed
Ensure all referral patients to tertiary hospitals are prepared in time and the availability of the referral nurse, all
documentation is done, and essential supplies are always available (Emergency referral box available).
Data Quality & Reporting
- Supervise your team in the proper use of registration tools, data accuracy, pharmacy consumption records, and
ensure timely compilation of department statistics and reports.
Pharmacy & Supplies Oversight
- Ensure proper drug/supply management in your department in coordination with the NAM and Pharmacy team,
including replenishment, expiry monitoring, and equipment management. - Monitor the use of medicines and the proper administration of treatment in line with MSF protocols.
People Centred Approach.
- Together with NAM, MAM, and the social worker, ensure staff comply with the MSF culture of caring, quality of care,
and patient satisfaction.
Ensure the team pays close attention to patient needs and, where necessary, address any patient support needed to
relevant departments or your line management
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
- Regular inventory of MCP boxes and ensure readiness at all times.
- Actively participate and manage during a mass casualty incident.
Requirements:
Education
• Speciality (nurse or anaesthetist) diploma essential
Experience
• Essential 2 years of previous experience. Having worked in MSF or other NGO’s and in
developing countries is desirable.
Languages
• Mission language and local language essential
