Job Title: Finance Manager
Location: Abuja (FCT)
Scope of the Position
- The Finance Manager will be responsible for overseeing financial planning, management, reporting, and compliance of all country operations.
- The role ensures that financial systems are efficient, transparent, and aligned with donor donor regulations, organizational policies, and Nigeria laws.
Main Responsibilities and Tasks
- Under the general supervision and guidance of the Country Administrator or other designated staff, the Finance manager will be responsible to veriffy the accuracy of project accounts and expenditure forecasts for all projects.
- He/she ensures the completeness and accuracy of financial reports and their supporting documentation in accordance with COOPI’s internal procedures and donors’ regulations.
In particular, the implementation of the role involves the following activities:
On a monthly basis:
- Receive from Project Administrators the updated and complete accounting records, cash and bank reconciliations, and expenditure forecasts for the following months;
- Verify that the Country Coordination expenditure forecasts are correctly included in the project forecasts;
- Verify the accuracy and consistency of the accounts with COOPI internal rules and donors’ regulations;
- After verification with the Country Administrator and the Project Administrator, carry out any necessary corrections;
- Share the verified (and corrected if necessary) project accounts and expenditure forecasts with the Regional Administrator, Country Administrator, Audit Manager, and Project Administrator.
Financial reports:
- Verify the accuracy of interim and final financial reports according to COOPI internal rules and donors’ regulations;
- Send the interim and final financial reports and all supporting documents to the Country Administrator for validation;
- Maintain an updated physical and electronic archive of financial reports sent to donors, including all supporting documentation.
Internal Controls & Risk Management:
- Establish and maintain robust internal control systems
- Ensure adherence to financial policies, procedures, and anti-fraud measures
- Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies
- Support internal and external audits and ensure timely closure of audit findings
- Work closely with program, logistics, and HR teams to support operations
- Support proposal development, budget revisions, and realignments
Code of conduct and associated policies:
- Treat beneficiaries with dignity and apply COOPI’s Code of Ethics and Conduct, the UN Convention for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in the field, including sensitizing Field Monitors and vendors/agents on such principles.
- Promote the zero-tolerance policy regarding corruption and ensure adherence to COOPI Code of Conduct and Anti-Fraud policy.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
- Professional certification such as ACCA, ICAN, or CPA is strongly preferred
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial management, preferably with humanitarian NGOs
- Proven experience managing donor-funded projects in emergency contexts
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment, taking initiative & prioritizing multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in both spoken and written English is required.
