Job Title: Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)

Location: Maiduguri, Borno
Employment Type: Contract

Responsibilities
Focus on well-being:

  • MHPSS aims to enhance the ability of individuals to cope with life’s stresses, realize their potential, and contribute to their communities.

Multi-sectoral approach:

  • It requires collaboration across various sectors like health, education, and protection to address diverse needs.
  • Addressing both mental health and psychosocial needs:
  • This includes providing support for specific mental health conditions and also addressing broader psychosocial factors that affect well-being.

Importance in emergencies:

  • MHPSS is critical in emergency situations to mitigate the impact of trauma and promote recovery.
  • Emphasis on community and individual agency:
  • MHPSS empowers individuals and communities to support each other and build resilience.

Examples of MHPSS interventions:

  • Community and family support activities:
  • These include strengthening social networks, promoting positive parenting, and facilitating access to community resources.

Psychological first aid:

  • Providing basic support to individuals experiencing distress, such as active listening, practical assistance, and connecting them with appropriate services.

Mental health services:

  • Access to qualified professionals for assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions.

Activities promoting social inclusion:

  • Examples include art, sports, and cultural activities that foster a sense of belonging and participation.

Education and awareness-raising:

  • Providing information about mental health and psychosocial well-being to reduce stigma and promote help-seeking behaviors.

Requirements

  • Interested candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree / HND or Master’s Degree qualification with 2 – 7 years work experience.
