Job Summary:
We require a Senior Fisheries Value Chain Specialist who will enhance the efficiency and sustainability of the AquaTrade project. The Senior Specialist will analyze activities within the project and provide value chain support, including improving post-harvest handling, value addition and strengthening market linkages.
Program/Practice/Department Overview:
The AquaTrade project is designed to create jobs within Nigeria’s fisheries value chain for women and youths by providing capacity building training and facilitating access to market and finance with the aim of boosting trade in fish and value-added fish products.
Primary Functions & Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive value chain analysis to identify key actors, processes, and constraints.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve post-harvest handling, processing, and storage practices.
- Promote the adoption of best practices in quality control and food safety (HACCP, ISO).
- Facilitate linkages between fishers, processors, and markets, both domestically and internationally.
- Identify and develop new market opportunities for Nigerian fisheries products.
- Support the development of cold chain logistics.
- Train fishers, processors, and traders on best practices in value chain management and provide technical assistance on value addition techniques.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Science, Food Technology, Agricultural Economics, or a related field and 5 years of experience in fisheries value chain development.
- Alternatively a Master’s degree with minimum 3 years of experience
- Strong understanding of post-harvest management and processing techniques.
- Experience working with fishers, processors, and traders in island economies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in implementing value chain development projects in developing countries.
- Knowledge of sustainable fisheries management practices.
- Experience with cold chain logistics.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with stakeholders.
