Slum and Rural Health Initiative is a nonprofit organization that started operations in 2017 and is officially registered in Nigeria, Ethiopia, and the Gambia that improves access to healthcare information and services in Africa, especially in vulnerable and underserved communities using the tools of advocacy, research, and technology. We are a ‘multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, social scientists information technology experts, researchers, graphic designers, and social entrepreneurs who are passionate about changing the sad narrative of healthcare information and service delivery in Nigeria, Ethiopia, and other parts of Africa.

Job Summary

The Research Officer will play a crucial role in supporting SRHIN’s research initiatives, ensuring high-quality data collection, analysis, and reporting. The officer will be responsible for writing research manuscripts, leading monitoring and evaluation (M&E) efforts for various projects, preparing research reports, and conducting both quantitative and qualitative interviews. The role requires a strong background in research methodologies, data analysis, and scientific writing to contribute to evidence-based decision-making and program improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Research and Manuscipt Development

Conduct literature reviews to support research projects.

Develop research proposals, study protocols, and ethical approval applications.

Write research manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Collaborate with project teams to translate findings into policy briefs and reports.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant research developments in the field.

Qualification and Skills

=> A minimum of a Master’s degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Epidemiology, Statistics, or a related field. Individuals with a Bachelor’s degree and who have extensive years of research experience may apply.

=> Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in research, monitoring and evaluation, or a related role.

=> Strong proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods.

=> Experience in developing research manuscripts and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

=> Proficiency in statistical software (SPSS, STATA, R) and qualitative analysis tools (NVivo, ATLAS.ti).

=> Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

=> Experience in the health sector or humanitarian settings.

=> Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E)

Design and implement M&E frameworks to assess the effectiveness of programs and interventions.

Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and data collection tools for program monitoring.

Work with a team of field researchers to ensure quality data collection

Analyze M&E data and generate reports with actionable insights for program improvement.

Ensure compliance with donor reporting requirements and internal M&E standards.

Data Collection and Analysis

Design and administer surveys, focus groups, and key informant interviews.

Conduct both qualitative and quantitative data analysis using statistical software such as NViVo, MAXQDA, SPSS, STATA, or R.

Analyze large secondary datasets (Nigeria Demographic Health Survey, Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey, etc)

Maintain data integrity, ensuring accurate and ethical data collection and management.

Prepare periodic reports for internal and external stakeholders, including donors, partners, and government agencies.
