Remote International Consultant – Amnesty International

Compensation: £350 per day

Background & Job Description

Amnesty International seeks a Remote International Consultant to provide expertise on applying the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (BHR) to counter overly broad national security legislation and restricted civic space in Hong Kong. The consultant will collaborate with the East and South East Asia and Pacific Regional Office and report to the Deputy Regional Director, Greater China.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting desk research, sectoral analysis, and stakeholder mapping related to business and human rights risks in Hong Kong.
  • Providing written analysis of Hong Kong laws’ impact on businesses and associated human rights risks.
      • Assisting Amnesty International in monitoring advocacy opportunities and developing strategies aligned with BHR principles.

    • Supporting case-specific monitoring of human rights impacts on business obligations.

    The consultancy involves both autonomous and collaborative work, with outputs adhering to Amnesty International’s quality assurance and style standards.


    Qualifications Remote Consultant with Amnesty International

    Essential

      • Proven experience in human rights research with a focus on Business and Human Rights.

    • Specialist knowledge in BHR and related frameworks.
    • Ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely in English.
    • Strong organizational and strategic planning skills.

Preferred

  • In-depth understanding of Hong Kong’s legal, political, and business environment.
  • Proficiency in Chinese (traditional/simplified) and Cantonese/Putonghua is advantageous.
