High Impact Professionals (HIP) – hiring Director of Operations ( Global Remote)

About High Impact Professionals

High Impact Professionals (HIP) is an international nonprofit that helps experienced professionals use their careers to work on the world’s most pressing problems. We’ve helped more than 140 professionals move into high-impact roles and facilitated more than $5 million in counterfactual impact. Our 2025 impact report has the detail.

More funding is coming into high-impact work, and organizations are hiring faster than they planned to. Since 2025 our team has grown from 2 to 5 staff, and over the next two years we plan to grow to around 14, run twice as many rounds of the IAP with twice as many participants in each, launch new programs, and support hundreds of career transitions a year.

Job Title:  Director of Operations

Location: Fully remote

Job Type :  Full-time (part-time considered)

About the role

We’re hiring a Director of Operations to build the systems that allow HIP to grow from 5 to around 14 people while significantly scaling our impact.

You’ll own HIP’s operations end to end (finance, legal and compliance, and people operations), including leading our move from fiscal sponsorship to operating as an independent 501(c)(3). You’ll work closely with our Executive Director and join our leadership team alongside our Director of Programs and Director of Marketing.

What you’ll do

  • Independence from our fiscal sponsor: lead HIP’s move from fiscal sponsorship to operating through our own 501(c)(3), planned for mid-2027, including banking, accounting, payroll and contractor payments, insurance, and the legal and compliance set-up that comes with it.

  • Finance: own budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting, including audit-readiness, and work with the Executive Director on multi-year planning as we scale.

  • People operations: contracts for an international, remote team, including updating and developing the relevant policies.

  • Compliance: keep us compliant as an independent 501(c)(3), with the systems and processes that make it routine.

  • Operations for new programs: set up the operational and administrative side of new lines of work as HIP adds programs.

  • Build the function: design systems that work with minimal oversight, using automation and AI tools where they help.

What success looks like

In your first month

  • You’ll get up to speed on HIP’s programs, finances and current operational set-up, and get to know the team.

  • You’ll have a plan and timeline for our move to our own 501(c)(3).

By month three

  • HIP’s finances, contracts and policies have a clear owner and an up-to-date system.

  • The move to our own 501(c)(3) is on track, with key providers (accounting, payroll, banking, insurance) in place.

By month six

  • HIP is operating through its own 501(c)(3).

  • You’re the person the team goes to on anything operational.

About you

We think you’ll thrive in this role if you:

  • Have significant experience in operations leadership, ideally as a director or the most senior operations person in an organization, across finance, legal and compliance, and people operations.

  • Are financially literate and comfortable owning a multi-million dollar budget, with the reporting and controls to match.

  • Think in systems: you build processes that outlast you, and you enjoy making them simpler.

  • Are proactive and calm under pressure: you spot risks early and resolve them before they become problems.

  • Have excellent judgment and written communication, and are comfortable working with funders.

  • Are comfortable using (or excited to learn) AI tools like Claude Code.

  • Are excited about helping experienced professionals move into high-impact careers.

  • Work well in a remote, fast-paced, small team setting.

  • Are fluent in English.

These aren’t required, but would be highly beneficial:

  • Nonprofit operations experience, ideally at a US 501(c)(3), including moving off fiscal sponsorship.

  • Experience with international contractor and employer-of-record set-ups.

  • Familiarity with the high-impact careers space.

Not sure you tick every box? We’d still love to hear from you. Many excellent candidates will bring other strengths and experiences that make them a great fit for this role.

We’re committed to building a diverse team and especially encourage candidates from backgrounds that are underrepresented in our field to apply. If you’re excited about our mission, please don’t hesitate to throw your hat in the ring!
