AfriHealth Metrics™ – hiring Adhoc Clinical Assessor — Medical Doctor (Multiple Locations)

About AfriHealth Metrics™

AfriHealth Metrics™ is an independent healthcare performance intelligence organisation building Africa’s first standardised system for assessing, measuring and benchmarking healthcare facilities across the continent. Our flagship methodology, the Facility Readiness and Performance Index™ (FRPI™), evaluates facilities across 120 indicators spanning 10 performance domains, producing composite scores and facility-level assessments that are comparable across facility types, ownership models and geographic contexts, from primary health centres in Kibera, Kenya to tertiary private hospitals in Lagos, Nigeria. We serve governments that need evidence to plan and invest, health insurers building credible provider networks, development partners and investors seeking independent verification of facility readiness, and the healthcare providers themselves, who deserve a clear, external measure of where they stand and a precise path toward improvement. We are not measuring African healthcare through a borrowed lens. We are building the tools this continent deserves from the ground up.

The FRPI™ Assessment Programme

The FRPI™ assesses healthcare facilities across six instrument types covering Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary facilities in both the public and private sectors. Assessments are conducted by trained, multi-professional teams whose combined expertise covers every domain of the framework, from clinical services and pharmacy management to laboratory quality, biomedical equipment, and health data systems.

The Medical Doctor Assessor is the clinical anchor of every FRPI™ assessment team. You will lead the evaluation of clinical service quality, patient safety, infection prevention, and governance standards across the facility. Your clinical training and professional judgment are the foundation on which the FRPI™’s credibility rests.

Assessment Responsibilities

As an FRPI™ Medical Doctor Assessor, you will evaluate the following areas during facility visits. Specific assessment items vary by facility type (Primary, Secondary, or Tertiary) and ownership (public or private).

  • Evaluate clinical workforce availability, duty coverage, and staff competency, including verification of staffing levels against service mandate, absenteeism checks through on-site observation, and training compliance records for infection prevention and emergency obstetric care.
  • Assess the range and quality of clinical services offered, including reproductive health, maternal and child health, immunisation, outpatient and inpatient care, and non-communicable disease management, measured against Nigeria’s essential health service package and national clinical standards.
  • Verify the availability and functional readiness of emergency obstetric and newborn care services, including the signal functions required at the facility’s service level, in line with WHO standards.
  • Assess quality of care and patient safety systems, including infection prevention and control practices, clinical documentation standards, use of national treatment guidelines, and the functionality of clinical governance structures such as mortality reviews and clinical audit processes.
  • Evaluate emergency preparedness across the facility, including the availability and functional status of essential emergency equipment, life-saving medications, oxygen systems, and triage protocols.
  • Assess patient access, equity, and experience, including physical accessibility, patient rights practices, fee transparency, complaint mechanisms, and service hour availability.
  • Review the facility’s governance and regulatory standing, including operational licensing, clinical leadership structure, and compliance with the National Health Act and relevant state health regulations.
  • Lead the assessment team’s facility entry, debrief, and documentation processes, ensuring all assessment data is collected accurately, evidence is photographed and GPS-tagged, and the OIC debrief is conducted professionally without disclosing preliminary scores.
