Applications are now open for the LawAI Summer Fellowship 2027 in the USA. It is a Fully Funded Fellowship and is open to applicants from all around the world. The 10-week fellowship will take place from June 14 to August 20, 2027, with an in-person Convening Week in Washington, DC, from June 21–25. International applicants are eligible for visa sponsorship. The Objective of the LawAI Fellowship is to train fellows in Artificial Intelligence and to ensure that advances in artificial intelligence are beneficial and safe for everyone. Fellows will work under the mentors and engage with policymakers, researchers, and other leaders in the field.

About the Institute of LawAI
The Institute for Law & AI (LawAI) is an independent think tank that wants to make sure that AI is used safely and fairly. They work with governments, international organizations, and businesses to understand the legal issues around AI and suggest ways to solve them.
As a Summer Research Fellow, you’ll work with a mentor to create a research project that suits your background and interests in AI law and policy.
Eligibility Criteria
- The Fellowship is open to all Nationals.
- Applications from people with different backgrounds and levels of experience in AI law and policy.
- You don’t need to be an expert in AI research.
- The Past Fellows were from the following backgrounds:
- Graduate law students (e.g., JD or LLM), PhD candidates, and postdoctoral researchers
- Professionals transitioning into the field
- Legal academics

Benefits
- The fellowship is designed to be in person in Washington, DC, and we generally expect fellows to be based in DC for the summer. Fellows who relocate to DC will receive a $10,000 relocation and housing stipend. The stipend is treated as taxable income, and no reimbursement or receipts are required.
- Weekly subsidy: $2,000. Candidates with exceptional experience or qualifications may be eligible for higher subsidies.
- A Convening Week in Washington, DC (June 21–25), with eligible travel expenses covered, including flights, accommodation, and meals.
- Admission to the Summer Institute on Law and AI in Washington, DC, in July, with eligible travel expenses covered, including flights, accommodation, and meals.
