Job Title: Supervisory Producer – Drama (Nigeria)

Job purpose
- The BBC Media Action office in Nigeria is seeking a Supervisory Producer Drama for a multi-component Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) programme focused on reproductive health and family planning in Northern Nigeria.
- The Supervisory Producer will work with the Head of Production and the Creative Lead to support the production of a Hausa television drama from ideation to the end of post-production.
- The role involves working closely with the production company producing the drama to ensure the television drama series reflects the values and principles of BBC Media Action.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in producing a Hausa-language drama series from ideation through delivery of the final outputs.
- Support the production company throughout the production process to ensure the drama series is delivered within budget and within agreed timelines.
- Ensure that all scripts and recordings meet project objectives and are in line with BBC Editorial values and standards by working with scriptwriters to develop story outlines and edit final drafts, and working with actors in rehearsals and recordings.
- Work with the production company in determining work schedules for the different stages of the production process
- Lead the scripting process for the drama series. This includes working with the writers provided by the production company and guiding the process to develop storylines and scripts that align with project objectives and have premium entertainment value.
- Support the production process by interpreting and applying relevant research resources in the production of the television drama series.
- Foster a collaborative working relationship between the production company and BBC Media Action.
- Work with colleagues in BBC Media Action to elicit and collate periodic feedback to share with the production company at different stages of the television drama series production process.
- Work with the production company in the pre-production process of the television drama series. This includes auditioning, casting, determining filming locations and other associated activities.
- Ensure periodic approvals and sign-offs from BBC Media Action to support a smooth flow of activities from ideation through delivery of the final outputs.
- Work with and support the production crew appointed by the production company during principal photography and post-production to ensure that project objectives and BBC editorial values are reflected in the filming and post-production of the drama series.
Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Proven track record of 5 – 7 years or more in creative leadership, preferably across television drama production or social impact.
- Proven ability to develop creative concepts and translate strategic objectives into compelling creative ideas.
- Experience leading creative teams and managing multidisciplinary creative and production functions.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work within tight deadlines and resource constraints.
- Strong understanding of the Nigerian creative, digital and popular culture landscape.
- Understanding of BBC editorial values and the ability to apply them to creative and drama content.
- Demonstrable ability to work effectively across development, communications and creative environments.
- Evidence of imagination and an enthusiasm for generating new ideas, particularly those with the widest possible audience appeal.
- Drama production background and experience, preferably in the area of developing television scripts and coordinating script-writing processes.
- Creative writing skills in Hausa and English.
- Possess the ability to analyse and critically evaluate editorial content, identifying strengths and weaknesses in programme content and ways to improve it.
- Proven organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
