Y-ACT, an initiative of Amref Health Africa, is inviting applications from passionate and experienced young leaders across Africa and the diaspora to join its Youth Steering Committee (YSC) for the 2026–2028 term. The YSC serves as a  strategic advisory body that ensures meaningful  youth engagement in Y-ACT’s programming, advocacy, and policy influence across the continent and beyond.

Background

Y-ACT established the Youth Steering Committee to strengthen youth participation in shaping its priorities and initiatives. The platform enables young people to contribute strategic insights, amplify youth voices, and influence policies and programs aligned with the realities and aspirations of young people. This Terms of Reference (ToR) defines the structure, roles, and accountability framework guiding the YSC.

Management

The YSC functions as an advisory body providing strategic counsel to Y-ACT. Members will contribute to shaping programs, partnerships, and advocacy priorities while ensuring accountability to meaningful youth engagement commitments. Contributions will be clearly defined through individual work plans aligned with members’ expertise and availability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic input into Y-ACT’s priorities, programs, and partnerships.
  • Advise on youth-focused initiatives and opportunities to expand impact.
  • Contribute to regional and global engagements, consultations, and advocacy platforms.
  • Support knowledge development through thought pieces, reports, and policy inputs.
  • Represent youth perspectives and ensure accountability in Y-ACT’s engagement approach.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Aged 18–35 years at the time of application.
  • Proven experience in youth engagement, advocacy, policy, or development initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of youth-related issues at national, regional, or continental levels.
  • Ability to commit to active participation, collaboration, and defined deliverables.

Composition & Tenure

  • Six (6) members representing Africa’s five subregions (North, West, Central, East, Southern) and the diaspora.
  • Strong emphasis on gender balance, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Two-year term, including a six-month probationary period.

Selection Process

  • Open and competitive application process.
  • Shortlisting and interviews based on experience, strategic thinking, and alignment with Y-ACT values.
  • Final selection ensuring regional representation, diversity, and collective expertise.
