Holistic Safety Workshop for Investigative Reporters

The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) invites applications from senior investigative journalists and editors in Nigeria for the Civic Space Guard’s Holistic Safety Workshop for Investigative Reporters, a two-day virtual training scheduled to hold on Thursday, 18 June and Friday, 19 June 2026.
Investigative journalism remains one of the most impactful forms of public-interest reporting, but it also exposes journalists to a range of risks, including legal, digital, physical, psychosocial, and economic threats. As these challenges continue to evolve, journalists require practical safety knowledge and tools that enable them to pursue accountability reporting while protecting themselves, their sources, and their work.
The virtual training is designed to strengthen participants’ capacity to identify, assess, and respond to risks associated with investigative reporting. Through expert-led sessions and practical engagements, participants will gain insights into holistic safety approaches that support effective and responsible journalism in increasingly complex reporting environments.
Since its launch in December 2021, the Civic Space Guard initiative has contributed to strengthening the safety, resilience, and preparedness of journalists working to advance accountability and civic space in Nigeria. Building on lessons from previous engagements in 2024 and 2025, this workshop will feature tailored sessions that address the realities and challenges faced by investigative journalists across different reporting beats and locations.
The workshop is open exclusively to senior and experienced investigative journalists and editors based in Nigeria who are committed to advancing media freedom, accountability, and civic space through safe and responsible investigative journalism.
