MdM operating in Nigeria, Borno state since October 2016.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: MHPSS / GBV Counsellor

Location: Zango LGA, Katsina
Job type: Full-time (Onsite)

Main Responsibilities 

  • Under the Supervision of the Medical Doctor, the MHPSS/GBV Counsellor will be responsible for identifying individuals with mental health distress/ survivors of GBV, providing first line of care and linking them to referral services.

Task Description
Program Implementation:

  • Identify and respond to survivors arising needs and work in close collaboration with other team to ensure the survivors psych-social and other needs are well met.
  • Deliver one-on-one Psychosocial support sessions to identified clients through MdM mobile Clinic.
  • Deliver health education/sensitization on MHPSS and GBV related topics in MdM mobile clinics.
  • Coordinate internal and external referrals to survivors according to their needs
  • Work in close collaboration with GBV Officer to update referral pathways and systems between community and PHC actors.

Program Reporting:

  • Collect and report appropriate MHPSS and GBV data of the mobile clinic.
  • Ensure regular reporting and tracking of survivors referred using the referral tracker form.

Reporting and attendance to different meetings:

  • Prepare a weekly activities report to submit to Medical Doctor
  • Participate in a pro-active way to MdM internal meetings (medical, security…)
  • Participate to all the  trainings organized by MDM

Others:

  • Give suggestions to improve the functioning of MDM mobile clinics
  • Participate to the loading and unloading of the vehicles and to the setting up of the mobile clinics
  • Be flexible in performing his/her duties to ensure that beneficiaries are getting good quality services
  • Is responsible for the proper use and maintenance of assigned equipment
  • Perform other additional duties on request of the team leader
  • Inform immediately the security focal point in case of any security problem in the field

Requirements
Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psycology, Social work, Counselling or related field.
  • Other health related certification is of added value.

Professional Experience

  • At least 3 years relevant professional experience in a similar position in humanitarian sector or supervision of health facilities.
  • Experience in emergency response, outbreak management, and clinical care.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams

Technical Skills:

  • Strong communication and report-writing abilities.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Personal Skills:

  • Culturally sensitive, respectful, and adaptable.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage priorities and make rapid, informed decisions.
  • Flexibility and readiness for irregular working hours during emergency response.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English required.
  • Knowledge of local language is an added value.

Other Requirements:

  • Given the operational context, employees are strongly encouraged to reside in Daura LGA which is proximal to Zango LGA the implementation area.
