- Provide strategic advice on the design, review, and implementation of policy and advocacy strategies that advance Plan International Nigeria’s mission.
- Bring a strong youth voice and perspective to national and international development dialogues, with particular focus on child rights, gender equality, and social inclusion.
- Support the development and dissemination of position papers, policy briefs, and advocacy messages that reflect the priorities of young people.
2. Strategy and Governance
- Advise on the formulation and implementation of organisational strategic plans and annual work plans, ensuring they reflect youth priorities and realities.
- Participate in Plan International Nigeria’s planning and budgeting processes to strengthen transparency, gender representation, inclusiveness, and accountability.
- Contribute youth insights and experiences to enhance youth engagement in local and national governance processes within Plan International Nigeria’s structure.
3. Programmes and Campaigns
- Provide youth-informed, particularly girls’ perspectives to programme implementation at all levels to improve the design, delivery, and sustainability of projects.
- Offer guidance on events, campaigns, and community initiatives involving young people and young women, ensuring inclusivity and innovation.
- Review and contribute to youth – and child-focused project proposals, ensuring alignment with the needs of the target audience.
- Define success indicators and feedback mechanisms from the perspective of programme participants, contributing to key organizational reports and learning documents.
- Lead or co-facilitate workshops and community engagements with youth groups, schools, and community organisations to promote Plan International Nigeria’s work and principles.
4. Cross-Cutting Roles
- Promote principles of meaningful youth engagement, gender and inclusion across all thematic areas of Plan International Nigeria’s work.
- Support the creation of context-specific youth-friendly communication materials that are gender -responsive, tools, checklist and learning resources.
- Facilitate and co-facilitate capacity-building sessions, dialogues, and stakeholder workshops to strengthen youth participation.
- Collaborate with Youth Engagement Officer and Gender& Inclusion lead in the monitoring, evaluation, and documentation of YAP activities and impact.
5. Participation and Representation
- Attend bi-annual YAP meetings in person (typically during academic breaks).
- Participate in quarterly state-level meetings across all Plan International Nigeria field offices.
- Nominate and support two YAP representatives to attend Plan International Nigeria’s management meetings quarterly, with full participation and consultative rights.
- Take part in project start-up, review, and close-out/graduation meetings to share learnings and recommendations.
- Engage in ad hoc online meetings and consultations as needed to support the implementation of YAP initiatives.
- Age Requirement: Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 27 years at the time of application. This age range reflects Plan International Nigeria’s commitment to engaging both adolescents and young adults in decision-making, leadership, and advocacy for social change.
- Residency: Applicants must be resident within Nigeria and able to participate actively in YAP meetings, events, and activities either physically or virtually. Representation from diverse geopolitical zones, ethnic groups, genders, and abilities will be considered to ensure a panel that reflects the richness and diversity of Nigeria’s youth.
- Experience and Competence: Applicants must demonstrate at least one (1) year of active experience in any of the following areas:
Volunteering: Engagement in community service, humanitarian efforts, or development projects. Leadership: Holding leadership roles in school, youth networks, student bodies, community groups, faith-based or civil society organisations. Work or Advocacy Experience: Practical involvement in issues aligned with Plan International Nigeria’s thematic areas, such as education, gender equality, general protection, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), youth empowerment, humanitarian response, or governance.
- This experience should demonstrate a commitment to advancing social justice, equality, and youth-led change.
- Youth mobilising and Organising: Applicants should have proven ability to mobilise, organise, and engage other young people, whether through campaigns, peer education, advocacy initiatives, or social movements. Experience in coordinating youth-led activities or facilitating community dialogues is an added advantage.
- Personal Attributes: Candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, openness to diversity, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team. A commitment to Plan International’s values of equality, inclusion, and accountability is essential.
